Location
This photo was taken in Logy Bay just outside of the Capital city of Newfoundland, St. John's.Time
This photo was taken around 9am in April of 2019.Lighting
This photo was taken during a trip, so I had one chance to get the shot, and had to use the lighting conditions I was presented with. Luckily, I got here in the early morning so the sun was directly behind the camera, which exposed up the shadows nicely.Equipment
I used a DJI Mavic Air for this photo with an aperture of f2.8 and an ISO of 100. I believe the shutter speed was 1/1000s or 1/1250s.Inspiration
A few months earlier I saw that a local photographer had posted a photo from this location and it really caught my eye as unique. I knew that on my next trip to this city, about an 8 hour drive away, I had to get a photo at this spot.Editing
I shot the photo in RAW so that meant a quick edit in Adobe Photoshop for a few adjustments and then an export to JPG. I color-corrected the trees because this was early spring so they didn't quite have that green "pop" yet.In my camera bag
I'm a Canon shooter, and for a number of years my go to kit was the fullframe Canon 6D with a 24-105 f4L USM lens. I also had a Canon 20mm f2.8 for astrophotograohy and a Canon 55-250mm for wildlife. I recently made the switch to mirrorless to save weight and space. I picked up the crop Canon M50 with a 15-45mm lens and the fullframe Canon RP with a 24-105mm f4-7.1. I also do a lot of aerial photography, which I use my DJI Phantom 4 Pro and DJI Mavic Air for.Feedback
My advice is to look at other photographer's work, scout Google Earth, make a plan, and hopefully nail the shot! Aerial photography takes a bit more planning since drones are limited in the weather they can fly in (wind, rain) and many areas have strict drone laws.
