Behind The Lens
Location
In Idaho near a pond.Time
It was the middle of the afternoon. We had planned to shoot in the evening for perfect light and changed plans when we saw that it was cloudly. Cloudy days are the best. It's like a giant lightbox.Lighting
I always have a flash off to the side or somewhere close. I use the Interfit Badger. I probably had a softbox around it. Sometimes I can't use one here in Idaho because of the wind.Equipment
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV. This lens was my 70-200mm. Such a great lens. The flash was on a tripod off to the right and it was the Interfit Badger.Inspiration
I am a romantic. I love Wuthering Heights and all of the Jane Austin. I love lost love and romance and broken hearts and drama.Only in movies though. Not in my personal life. :) So I decided to shoot something very Austinesque. I love the idea of running to someone. In this picture, in my narrative, she was not sure he was coming home. When she sees him in the mist she runs to him.Editing
I do a lot of post-processing. I call myself a photographic painter. I love to take things into PS and see what I can do with them. I am actually a painter first and foremost. Photography has to mesh with that ideology for me to love it.In my camera bag
I carry my Canon 5D Mark IV, a 24-70mm Canon lens, a 70-200mm Canon lens and an 85mm Canon lens, all prime. I have a flash trigger, some extra SD cards and extra batteries for the camera and for the flash trigger. I have safety pins, chapstick, plastic garbage bag, a pen and that's about it.Feedback
Well, you have to be willing to work hard. I had my model run for half and hour until I got the movement and angle I wanted. If you want this lighting, you need to have a cloudy day. I like to have a flash just to brighten the shadows, but I keep it pretty low and don't make it a big deal.
