Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Genoa during a photo walk with "Fotografia Paesaggistica Italiana" Facebook Group.

Time

Just before dinner we went to the upper part of Genoa, precisely near the Righi funicular, to admire the skyline over the port. I immediately found this cityscape in front of me and started shooting.

Lighting

I tried to capture the lights carefully so as not to burn the details and at the same time enhance the car trails. The satisfaction received makes me hope to have succeeded in my intent.

Equipment

I used a mirrorless camera Sony A7II with a 70-200 lens at 200mm, obviously on tripod and shot in manual bracketing mode.

Inspiration

I was inspired by this place, even before visiting, looking at the shots of the photographer and friend Matteo Bertetto who also kindly indicated the spot. I generally love cityscapes and light trails, creating images with a good balance between lights and shadows.

Editing

This photographic genre almost always requires multiple shots to be processed later in postprocessing. The fusion methods are manifold but in this case I used luminosity masks.

In my camera bag

In my backpack can never be missing my camera, a wide angle lens, a 50mm lens, a telephoto lens, a remote shutter, a torch, batteries always at 100% charge and memory cards as if it rains.

Feedback

My personal advice to those who approach landscape and cityscape photography but more generally to any photographic genre is to always observe great photos but also less beautiful photos to understand their mistakes and learn to avoid them. Thereafter there is no other way than to study to expand your skills both in the shooting phase and in the postprocessing phase.
