Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken, a short distance from my home at the time, Faro de Punta Pechiguera which is the most southerly point of the Island of Lanzarote.

Time

Taken in the evening about an hour before sunset during "La Calima"

Lighting

In the Canary Islands there is a phenomenon known as La Calima which is a Saharan wind which brings extreme temperatures and a high concentration of sand in the air. Lanzarote, being closest to Africa gets the brunt of these Calimas and I wouldn't normally consider it a good time to be taking photos but on this occasion it rendered the odd colour cast which is what makes the picture stand out.

Equipment

A hand-held Canon EOS40D and Canon 18-200IS Zoom Lens.

Inspiration

I just liked how tiny and fragile the boat looked. To be honest I was hoping for a more dramatic splash from the incoming waves to heighten the idea of the power of teh sea but it was not to be.

Editing

Not really much done apart from cropping and tweaking contrast and saturation levels.

In my camera bag

As above and I have a Canon EOS110D also with a 50mm 1.4 attached.

Feedback

It's the age old advice of always having a camera with you and your eyes and mind open to oportunities to make interesting images.
