Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Austin Robers Bird Sanctuary, Brooklyn, Pretoria, South Africa. My wife wanted to do some shopping a the mall and luckily for me, this bird sanctuary was nearby.

Time

This photo was taken late morning, long passed the golden hour.

Lighting

The light that day wasn't so good, lots of clouds and lots of shade from big trees around the bird hide. I wanted to take a sharp image and set my shutter speed to 2000, I had to increase my ISO to 3200. I don't usually set my ISO that high, but it worked for me that day.

Equipment

Camera was a Canon 5D Mark II and the lens was a Sigma 100-400mm 1:5-6.3 DG

Inspiration

I love taking photos of wildlife. My son inspires me a lot and when I look at the amazing wildlife photo's on viewbug, I am inspired to keep trying. Suppose it's all about patience and endurance?

Editing

I always shoot in raw. When I look at the raw photo, I must have tweaked the image a bit, but not much and I didn't crop it more than 30%.

In my camera bag

Cameras: Canon EOS 5D mark II and a Canon EOS1300D Lenses: Sigma 100-400mm 1:5-6.3 DG and a Canon EFS 18-55mm Canon Timer remote controller TC-80N3 Tripod 3 batteries for the 5D 2 battery chargers Lense cleaning kit. 3 ScanDisk Extreme 60MB/s 32GB memory cards

Feedback

Patience and endurance, I suppose.
