Behind The Lens

Location
I took this last Summer at Whitsand Bay in Cornwall. We stay in one of the Beach Huts on the cliffside there every year it’s a special place.
Time
Late evening this was the only photo of a few to capture the incredible sunburst!
Lighting
This was a matter of waiting for the sunburst to be just right. Normally I’m constantly looking for the way the light falls in a view waiting for perfect shadows. Nowadays my photos are ‘all about the light’ and I rarely photograph my landscapes midday. I definitely view the world in a different light since taking up photography and notice light and shadows in a view constantly now that other people don’t seem to notice.
Equipment
My old Nikon and a grad filter sat on the rocks without a tripod.
Inspiration
I wanted to capture the incredible sunburst in front of me and the buoys at the beach cafe framed it so well.
Editing
Very little PP on this one as its an older one taken in Jpeg before I used Lightroom. Pretty much as shot. (Nowadays everything I shoot is in RAW and I spend much more time editing so it’s lovely for a hardly touched shot to have received recognition).
In my camera bag
As a mostly landscape photographer I usually have my Sony DSC-RX10iii which covers every eventuality lens wise..within seconds I can be shooting Mount Snowdon in wide angle and then zooming in on people stood on the Summit. I also have a grad filter and ND filter, spare battery, bottle of water and snacks in my bag as I’m usually to be found in the hills miles from anywhere.
Feedback
Try to find something interesting in the foreground rather than just take ‘another sunset’ ..see where the light is falling and follow it. Carry a filter or use the sunset setting on your camera if you are unsure about getting the exposure right in such bright conditions. Enjoy the moment!
