Behind The Lens

Location

We were in Kenosha, WI on Lake Michigan in March. The calendar said it was Spring. Winds from the great lake said otherwise. My friends sat in the car while I set up my gear.

Time

It was mid-day, my least favorite time to shoot. The clouds and overcast lighting helped a bit though.

Lighting

The cloudy day helped to give the water and waves a bluish green cast.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D810 with Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens.

Inspiration

Well, the lighthouse attracted me. And as I started working, the seagull made its way into my frame. I started shooting the bird instead of the lighthouse and ended up with this shot, as the seagull was bathing.

Editing

I did only minor post-processing. I added some contrast and some extra vibrance. I then enhanced the blues and greens.

In my camera bag

Usually one camera body, a wide-angle 20mm lens, and my 24-70mm Sigma zoom. On occasion, I also carry my 70-300mm Nikkor zoom as well.

Feedback

It would've been easy for me to skip the shoot altogether. But I put up with the wind and the cold and was rewarded with a few photos I was very happy with.
