Location
This photo was taken on a trip to Philadelphia. The door was the entryway to a public garden that grew food for the community. Im a self taught photographer from New Jersey who learns more from each photoshoot.Time
This photo was taken midday in the winter, as you can see some residual snow on the bottom of the photo from the previous snowfall. I was walking around South Street in Philly and noticed the unique door. I got the inspiration from a previous photographer who I met years back whom I can't remember his name unfortunately that had a collection of different photos of doors he would bring around with him and set up for photoshoots. If you look at my portofolio this is not the only door I have captured. Door are a "gateway" figuratively and literally, and can sometimes be a focal point to a home building and in this case a garden.Lighting
The sky was one of those blue grey winter colored skies with not much detail so the lighting was rather cloudy and suboptimal.Equipment
I used a Canon 6D freehand with no tripod using a 24mm - 105mm lens and a UV filter.Inspiration
My inspiration was a photographer I had met years back who had a collection of photos of doors that he would travel with and place in places that doors didn't belong such as a beach or a desert or field. I loved the idea and ultimately inspired me to look at doors in more ways than just an opening into another room.Editing
I did do some post-processing to the photo. Since it was a subpar natural light type of day I didn't get the best lighting so I reduced the highlights and contrast to give it some darker tones. I did sharpen it up as well to really show the multiple layers and textures of the wood.In my camera bag
Right now I don't have much in my bag but I did invest and chose to get the Canon 6D with the 24 - 105mm lens. I recently got a Speedlite EL-100 flash since I love shooting portraits. And I do have a multiple tripods. In the future I would like to get more lens such as a fixed lens or even a macro lens for super close up shots of nature.Feedback
Being that I'm a self taught photographer I would tell everyone who's just starting out to bring your camera everywhere and take photos of everything because you will look at those photos later and learn from them,. What angle would've been better, what manual settings you should've used instead, which way I should've pointed my flash. Ask your friends or family members to take free photoshoots of them and take more photos then you would like to think this way you can find a few gems in bunch.
