Behind The Lens

Location
I took this picture while fishing off a pier at Lake Corpus Cristi in Mathis, Texas.
Time
We were camping at Lake Corpus Cristi and decided to try our luck at fishing off the pier for catfish. At about 4:00pm, the wind calmed and the sun started it's daily setting. As it got nearer the horizon, the colors became more defined while the reflection off the lake surface deepened, developing into one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen.
Lighting
In this photograph, nature provided all the lighting I needed and did so in spectacular fashion.
Equipment
This was shot from a iPhone 6, no other equipment involved.
Inspiration
I was fishing and didn't even expect to take any photographs that evening, other than perhaps of a fish that we would catch and release. My regular camera was in its case in the RV a half mile away. As the colors developed, I knew I only had a few minutes to really catch what we were a witness to. No time to return to the RV, I focused my attention at using my iPhone and getting shots at different angles and elevations. The sunset that nature painted that afternoon is what really inspired me.
Editing
I only used post-processing to add my watermark to the lower right corner. Everything else seemed to work the way it was.
In my camera bag
When I have my bag with me, I keep it pretty simple. I have a Canon Rebel EOS XSi, a Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens, a Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens and a Canon Macro EF 100mm lens. I realize that this is older and not fancy in the least, but it's miles ahead of the Canon AE-1 that was my go to camera before this one.
Feedback
Keep your main camera close all the time! You never know when a beautiful sunset might be right around the corner!
