Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the UC Davis Arboretum in Northern California.

Time

This photo was taken at the beginning of this Spring season. It was around 9 am, so the sun had just risen for a couple of hours.

Lighting

We found this perfect bush with yellow pom pom blooms and what made it even better was that the harsh morning sun was shaded by huge trees surrounding it.

Equipment

I used my Canon 5D Mark III paired with my Sigma Art 85mm lens. There were no other equipment used besides what I had in my hands.

Inspiration

I scene I wanted to create here was of a sleeping Queen. I designed this red dress myself and having the red against this beautiful yellow blooms, just brought everything to life.

Editing

I used Photoshop to bring out some of the brown earthy tones and made the colors more vibrant as how I saw it that morning. I also took out blemishes that was apparent on her skin but kept the textures. I am a huge fan of adjustment layers! You will see it in all of my post-processing work. I wanted the crown to have a more antique look to it, so I gave it a darker golden color.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag, I always have my camera, 2 lens, a reflector, and some spare batteries.

Feedback

I say be spontaneous, do what you feel is right. Sometimes the best photos are the ones you least expect to turn out! Light, shadows, and colors are your best friends.
