Location
This photo was taken during a photographic project on the Apennines, near Rimini, Emilia Romagna, Italy. I had almost finished my work, the light was low, the night was coming and the temperature was dropping, but behind me I noticed this show. The simple undulating line of demarcation between a pink sky and a white earth of snow was perfect, in an atmosphere of peace and serenity.Time
It was afternoon, towards evening, it was not late but in the mountains the sun sets earlier than in the plains, and so did the temperaturegoes down.Lighting
The sunset light arrives earlier in the mountains than in the plains, the day was cold and clear, the snow on the ground brightened everything up sufficiently and I didn't need any other artificial lights.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon 7D, with a 85mm lens and a tripod Manfrotto.Inspiration
It had been a day of intense work, I was tired, but I had finished the work and the environment was very quiet, the atmosphere was so relaxing that I could finally enjoy the view of that unexpected sunset. There was no one around, I was alone like that one tree in the photo, I remember thinking that it (the tree) could enjoy that show and that quiet every day, so a little jealous of it, I wanted to immortalize that moment, to enjoy it every day watching that shot.Editing
I didn't need to work a lot in post-production the shot in raw, I just corrected the white balance a bit and adjusted the sharpness, levels and curves. Nothing else.In my camera bag
It depends on what I have to go to photograph; for this shot I used a canon 85mm, however, for a shot like this, a tripod is essential, but a do-it-all lens is enough. Of course, for landscapes a lens with a wide aperture would be better, which is almost never missing in my bag.Feedback
Never forget to take your tripod with you, and don't rush, don't be impatient to shoot, just relax and the best time will come. One last tip: it doesn't matter many "things" inside the frame, sometimes just the minimum is enough to fill the image, even a single tree. That's all :-)
