Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Time

This was taken at sunset when the sun was just above the horizon. It was one of the best sunset shots I’ve captured. I get numerous compliments on this picture.

Lighting

When the sun hit the rock formations the colors came to life. It lit up the scene as if it were on fire and the clouds in the sky captured some of the suns reflection. Sunsets in the Grand Canyon are beautiful and I recommend anyone traveling to the Canyon to go out at sunset for amazing pictures.

Equipment

The camera I used was a Canon 70D with Canon EF 70-200mm Telephoto Lens 28L IS II USM with a polarizing filter. No flash or tripod were used.

Inspiration

On our first night at the Grand Canyon we were walking back to our lodge as the sun was setting and we witnessed the amazing colors in the canyon. The next night we found our location just before sunset and waited and captured this shot.

Editing

I process the raw images using LightRoom 6 to bring out some clarity but only minimal. I take multiple shots and sort out the best captures.

In my camera bag

Usually I take a Canon EF 16-35mm IS USM, a Canon EF 24-105mm IS II USM, Canon EF 70-200mm IS II USM and Canon EF 100-400mm IS II USM Lenses and Canon 1.4x Extender. B+W: KSM MRC2 NANO FILTER, B+W ND-VARIO MRC NANO FILTER LEXAR Professional 32 and 64 GB Memory Cards
