there was fog forcasted so I got up at five a.m. and drove one and a half hour with the car to take pictures of the sunrise at the Zellerhorn viewpoint with the Hohenzollern castle. I was hoping that the fog would raise higher and only the castle would be seen above an ocean of fog. Unfortunately the fog was only down in the valleys... But the fullmoonset a short time before sunrise and the play of colors was worth the trip

Location
This picture was taken from the viewpoint Zellerhorn near Onstmettingen in southern Germany. It is a twenty-minute walk from the parking lot at ZollersteighofTime
In the winter months there is occasional fog in the area. So it was predicted for this morning. I have been trying for a long time to record this castle over a sea of fog in the light of the first rays of the sun. Unfortunately, only a little bit of ground fog was granted to me this morning, but the morning sun let the castle shine beautifullyLighting
The sun rises at this place in autumn right behind the location of the photographer. On clear days, therefore, the sky behind the castle in the indirect light of the dawn colors. These warm colors contrast nicely with the cold hues of the mist in the shady valleysEquipment
Canon EOS 70D, Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM, f/8, 67mm, ISO100, 1/10 sec, tripodInspiration
Misty moods are always good for mysterious pictures - I already have pictures of this castle, where it is surrounded by clouds of fog. Only the desired picture - castle over fog sea - I still missEditing
Since I always shoot in raw format, I always need a little post-processing - sometimes more, sometimes less. Due to the great conditions this morning, only small adjustments to contrast, color balance and saturation were necessaryIn my camera bag
I have only one camera body, but use - depending on the nature of the motives - different lenses. For landscape photography, I use the Canon EF24-105mm f / 4L IS USM and the Canon EF16-35mm f / 4L IS USM, these two lenses are actually always there. A telephoto lens, the Tamron 70-300mm 1: 4-5.6 SP Di VC USM and a macro lens, the Tamron SP 90mm 1: 2.8 Di Macro 1: 1 VC USD, are actually always there - you never know when you can may need. For astrophotography I use the Tamron SP 15-30mm f / 2.8 So VC USD, which I have only because of its weight, if I also want to photograph stars. For wildlife photography, I still have a Tamron SP 150-600mm F / 5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, which is only there when I only want to photograph animals, because it is very heavy. I also use different ND and GND filters as well as a tripod for landscapingFeedback
It is not easy to get the right mood in this place. You have to be at the site before dawn to secure a place, because you are never alone there. There is no way to see in advance what the conditions are, you just have to be surprised ... In June and July you can also take pictures of the sunset at this place - when the sun goes down far to the north you can see it to the left of the castle go down
