During a family getaway in the Bizerte region, north of Tunisia, we went to the seaside resort of Ghar el Melh, formerly known as Porto Farina.
This photo is taken in one of the three forts of this locality, called Borj El Loutani, completed in 1659 and overlooking the old port. He was used as a garrison and as a prison.
In 1922, the three forts are classified as historical monuments. In 1964, they cease to be prisons and are decommissioned. Since 1990, the Tunisian government has undertaken a vast program of restoration and enhancement of these monuments.
I ‘m fascinated by these vaults and arcs that invite you to explore an unknown world and this symmetry! A real architectural feat, knowing that the materials are brick and stone.
