Behind The Lens

Location

Thais photo was taken in the Kgalagadi next to a waterhole Quebitjie Quap South Africa

Time

The Bateleurs only come down for water between 12h00 and 15h00 the hottest time of the day it is very dufficult to get good photos in the heat 45 degrees c

Lighting

The lighting is very harsh this time of the day it requires a lot of skills to set your camerawhen panning thies birds in flight

Equipment

Canon 7D MK 2 and 300 F2.8 lens hand held sitting in your car next to the water hole

Inspiration

Every day I sat for 4 hours in the heat of the day waiting for the Bateleurs to land . What inspires me to take a photo like this is very obvious looking at the photo

Editing

Only cropping and a tad of sharping was done

In my camera bag

When sitting next to a water hole I normally have at least two cameras in my car 1d mk4 and 7 dmk2 both with lenses 300 f 2.8 and a 500 f4. Bean bag and converters 1.4 and 2x

Feedback

Taking photos in this harsh light take a lot of setting on the camers M Plus 1. 2/3 F/stop 5-7 shutter speed 3200 ISO 400
