Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in a very small space to allow me to be able to set the shot up and take it quickly!
Time
Taken in the middle of the day.... not that the time would have made any difference to this image.
Lighting
One single speedlight was placed just to the left of middle with a magmod magsphere ontop.
Equipment
Shot with an Olympus EM5 mark II with a Panasonic 12-60 Leica Lens. I popped a trigger on my hotshoe to set the speedlight off. And some very important dog treats!
Inspiration
I loved the idea of taking a shot of just the pups head and full duckling. I was purposely getting an image for a "Juxtaposition" competition at my Camera Club. The size contrast as well as the 'hunting dog' v duck aspect was my idea behind it.
Editing
This image has gone through both Lightroom and Photoshop. 2 of my all time favourite programs. I have reduced the reds a little as the table had quite a red tinge to the wood.
In my camera bag
I always have my Panasonic 12-60mm Leica Lens, Panasonic 100-400mm Leica Lens and my 45mm macro lens in my camera bag. Having an Olympus EM5 mark II is great... it's a smaller camera but still takes amazing photos. You will also find my ring flash in there!
Feedback
Taking a shot like this requires a very well behaved dog, with lots of exposure to animals. I took quite a few test shots with the dog and a treat on the table before placing the duck into the scene. This particular dog is incredibly gentle and patient. The duck was more of a problem, running away pretty quickly. Extra hands are definitely a bonus when working with animals (and children!). My mum is actually a wildlife carer and was only cm's away from the duckling during shooting. I would never attempt a shot like this without knowing exactly how the dog would react to the situation.
