The lilac-breasted roller (Coracias caudatus) is the African member of the roller family of birds. It is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula, preferring open woodland and savanna. It’s an unbelievably beautiful bird. “Lilac” barely describes this bird of many colors. There’s lilac, aqua, white, blue, gold, pink, black, tan, green. The eyes are bright and alert. It’s not hard to take a picture of one perched at the top of a tree looking for something to eat. But so far, I don’t have one in flight. That’s on the bucket list.
I took this picture in Tanzania, Sub-Saharan Africa.
