Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my friends first Muay Thai gym she'd just opened up in Hervey Bay.

Time

It was taken in the middle of the day and we'd covered up each window with black out curtains to reach the perfect darkness.

Lighting

After blacking out the windows with curtains, we lifted up one corner of a window to allow a small amount of light into the gym. She stood just behind the light so only part of her was captured in the light and the rest was still hidden away in the darkness of the room.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark IV with a 24mm lens and no flash.

Inspiration

My model for this shot was a good friend who I've shot with many times. She wanted a photo for her new gym that brought out both her strength and feminine qualities at the same time. Originally we were going to use artificial lighting to get a silhouette but instead found the natural light really showed off her shape and curve while still capturing her strong figure perfectly.

Editing

I darkened the shadows and highlighted a few curves before turning it into a black and white image. This didn't need too much editing at all and we were both extremely excited with the outcome!

In my camera bag

My Canon 5d Mark IV camera body, 24-105mm lens, 4 sd cards and 2 batteries.

Feedback

Darken the room completely with curtains, then lift up a little corner of one of the curtains to allow a small line of controlled light into the room. Play with the Angle of your model in front and behind the light to capture just the right amount of light onto your model that your satisfied with then shoot away!
