Behind The Lens

Location

I created the picture in the underground of Vienna. There I climbed into the subway system with a few explorer friends.

Time

In any case, it was late at night, during a break in operations, so there were no trains that could endanger us.

Lighting

Yes, what should I say about the exposure? As you can probably imagine, it's very dark down there, so I had to use the largest possible aperture. Nevertheless, the exposure time was still long, so I made a long exposure using the tripod. The only light source down there, the small lamps on the left, were unfortunately not as bright as it might appear in the photo.

Equipment

This was shot with my Sony A7R2 and the Samyang 12mm f2. I also used a tripod for the long time exposure

Inspiration

I was in Vienna for a few days to explore the city and to visit a few friends. we had already climbed a few roofs the days before and took some spectacular photos of the city from above. So one night there was a spontaneous trip to the city's subway to get to know the city from below. After we had waited for the perfect moment to get in, we went down some stairs and deeper until we finally stood directly on the rails in the tunnel.

Editing

I actually only post-processed there with Lightroom and adjusted the colors a little there to give the picture an "urban" look. Photo manipulation in Photoshop is a no go for me. Each of my photos actually happened that way.

In my camera bag

I usually have a very, very narrow set of equipment with me, as I always have to be fast and agile on my exploration tours. Specifically, this means that I have my Sony A7r2 with me and a wide angle. If I go to the subway, I take my Samyang 12mm f2 and / or the Canon 35mm f2 with me. For rooftops and architecture I like to use my favorite lens, the Voigtländer 10mm f5.6

Feedback

Jeden Interessierten kann ich nur den Rat geben immer vorsichtig zu sein und langsam anzufangen. Schließlich ist das Hobby der Stadterkundung nicht immer ganz legal und ungefährlich. Passt bitte auf euch auf!
