Location
I found the location while driving in the northern part of Iceland.Time
Well, the photo was taken at night, but I can't remember the exact time.Lighting
When you're shooting night landscapes the light is out of your control, but you can still make the best out of every lighting condition. To get the perfect image, sometimes (like in this case) you'll need to take multiple photos with different exposures and combine them in post.Equipment
I was shooting on an old Nikon D7000, with a 10-20mm F3.5 Sigma lens. In addition, a remote shutter release and a tripod have been used.Inspiration
I was inspired by the beauty of this place and the breathtaking clear sky full of stars.Editing
I took five photos in total. One with the perfect exposure on the sky, one of the foreground, and three detail shots, one of the trees in the middle, one of the mountains in the background and one of the wooden cabin. Then, first of all, I've blended the sky and the foreground into one image. Because I've been using a wide lens, I wasn't satisfied with the sizes of the trees, the cabin, and the mountains, which were much bigger in my memory. So I used my detail shots to make those objects quiet bigger. But something was still missing. There were no lights in the cabin windows. So I added some. After that, I imported the image into Lightroom and made some basic curves adjustments, decreased the saturation and added a vignette with a bit of blur on the edges. In my camera bag
Well, because I don't own a lot of equipment, my camera bag always contains a Nikon D7000, a 16-85mm F3.5-F5.6 Nikkor lens, one ND1000 and a CPL filter, a remote shutter release, a tripod and my Dell XPS 13 for editing on the go. Sometimes when I'm planning a longer trip or a photo shoot and need other lenses I borrow them from my school.Feedback
If the location is a well known touristic spot, arrive at the location early, to be able to get the best composition for your image. Take your time! Set up your camera on a good tripod and take a test image with the perfect exposure of the sky (high ISO at night). Then drop the ISO and calculate your new shutter speed to get the same exposure. For this purpose, you can always use an app like "Exposure Calculator", which I'm using quite often. Using a remote shutter release, or after setting a shutter delay in your camera settings, press the shutter release button. In most cases, your foreground will me be blown out, so in order to fix this, take another shot, but this time focus the exposure on the foreground. Finally, blend both images into one using photoshop and enjoy your perfect photo.
