Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a kitchen counter which had been setup for still life.

Time

The photo was taken around 11am however, since it was a studio type setting, time of day did not impact the photo.

Lighting

A pin light was used to achieve the effect seen in the photo

Equipment

This was shot using a Canon 5d Mark III with a EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. (that was the lens on the camera. The 'lens' on the table is actually a coffee cup which is very similar to the Canon lens used. I need to be careful when I have both the cup and the lens in the same room. Especially in the morning.

Inspiration

The idea just popped into my head while shooting a few stock photos. I was pouring a cup of coffee and though, hey, that would make for a cool photo.

Editing

Lighting was adjusted post.

In my camera bag

Assorted lenses, a few filters, flashes and a Canon 5d and 7d.

Feedback

Play around with lighting and flashes. This shot took 4 tries to get the final photo. It took a few shots to get the coffee pour to enter the cup exactly where I wanted. We also had to clean up the the coffee the overflowed from accidentally filling the cup too much. Keep something around to cleanup accidental spills.
