Location
Photo was taken during Dakar 2019 rally. It was at the first stage of rally, at about 50th km of 4000km.Time
I remember that it was Monday 7.01, not sure what time exactly because I was so excited, and a bit of worried having first time Canon Eos R in my hands.Lighting
Lightning is not a factor when you are taking pictures during rallies like Dakar, usually, you are somewhere in a desert so the light is bright. All you can do is to choose where you want to get shadows in your picture, and obviously, try not to stand in front of the sun ;). I used f/4 and 1/2500, that's how bright there was.Equipment
I was testing Canon EOS R, mirrorless camera with 24-105 mm lens. Not the best camera for that kind of situation hahahaInspiration
As usually I was looking for some spectacular spot. It's not easy on that kind of rally where you can not be sure about the track, I consider it more like a war situation than a sport, of course only in terms of predictability of what will happen.Editing
For that kind of photography, I use Lightroom as my main tool for post-processing. I do fast exposure and white balance correction and adding some drama style in contrasts, few more tweaks will stay as my little secret hahahhahahIn my camera bag
It all depends on the situation, I do not own a lot of gear, I prefer to use rental once, that way I can have always what I need. Getting back to my bag, I carry Canon 7Dm2 with 24-70 (cropped sensor gives me something like 40-110mm) and a 70-200mm (110-320), this is well enough for rally reportage style. Oh and a dozen of batteries.Feedback
If you want to catch something like that, the most important thing is to keep your nerves. Cars are going fast, are loud as s*it and can really scare you. Secondly stay focused, you never no the moment car will appear from behind the dune. I thing that with that kind of effect shutter speed is crucial, you shouldn't go lower than 1/1000
