The 'mold' in Louisiana dense air gives our architecture a special kiss of grit. Thanks JayneBug

Location
This image is from downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA. One of the state buildings built in the 40s and 50s. Solid. Empire. State. All business flavor to them. It is why I like to shoot them (more on my page)Time
I had just come from hanging 3 images at a Gallery Exhibit and it was a pleasant February day. As you can tell from the shadows, it is around 2 in the afternoon.Lighting
The lighting was PERFECT. Here is why... Just enough shadow to create drama and texture. Strong enough in the clear skies to be imposing but still able to see into themEquipment
I shoot only with Sony In this case it is a SonyA7Rm2 with a Zeiss 24/240 that I understand does come off... but for me it never does :-) I find the versatility of this set up works from macro to the stars. The cameras ability to render high quality RAW images at 42 meg gives me all I need. I carry a tripod in the car but it rarely comes out. I use it mainly for photo restoration shots where critical focus long exposure and ISO of 64 is important I always carry extra cards and batteries - why not? I own a polarizing filter and a UV filter but rarely useInspiration
I love what this image says about the self importance and practicality of government buildings from this era The straight lines lend themselves to black and white in a no nonsense way I find appealing to my eye. From the gallery's window where we where hanging images, I could see the perfect light forming and it was close and we were done. I am also keeping an eye out on these buildings. There are more than this one and if you care to look, they are on my pageEditing
I am a fan of this path.. Raw Image - Bridge - ACR - PScc - ACR - PScc and to jpeg In this case I used gradient map adjustment layer to start, and then a series of adjustment layers to achieve this look. Primarily exposure layers with strong gamma slider and masksIn my camera bag
I am a fanatic about my Sony A7Rm2 with the Zeiss 24/240 When doing something away from the house, I also carry my Sony A7m2 with kit 18/70 The cameras ability to render high quality RAW images at 42 meg gives me all I need. The are 2 quotes I would like you to consider: A) Shooting color is like seeing the movie, Shooting Black and White is reading the book; B) The meaning of life lies in the verb 'seeing' So be curious, try and try again, wander with a wondering eye, and most of all - PLAY!!
