Location
This photo was taken in Arizona at a place called "White Pocket". Its about 3h from Kanab and about the same from Page. If you go there its highly recommended to havea high clearance vehicle.Time
It was taken about 3 hours after the sunset. No remains of the blue hour give a strong contrast and the sky turns black.Lighting
This photo was taken during a tiny photo meet up. A hand full of photogrpahers from all over the US and Canada (Denver, LA, Houston and several more) came together for our anual Meteor Jam.Equipment
For this shot i used my Canon 5D Mark IV on my Manfrotto carbon fiber Be Free. To get the light effects i used some LED Lenser Flash lights with some colored gel.Inspiration
Some years ago i saw a picture of this tree and ever since i wanted to get my on shot of this tree. In the past years i went to White Pocket at least 4 times. The isolated yet hidden location had such a strong pull for me its hard to describe. This shot was to show not the stars but the solid ground the roots are based in. I find it intruguing that the tree has a strong hold in the rock formation. The entire area has a few bushes may be one or two small tiny trees (if you want to call it) yet only that one single "tree". That says so much. That tree seems so strong and stands alone yet semm so healthy.Editing
There is not much post here. There is a tiny bit of Lightroom for crop and sharpness and a few tiny tweeks. The colores and the light were placed during the expsoure time. So i was running around with the flashlight doing the "dodge and burn in real life" not on the computerIn my camera bag
Normally i have my Canon and a small tripod as well as my remote triggers as well as a some smaller flashlights. When i think about a "bigger Picture" its often not just one bag but a few suit cases full of lights and tools.Feedback
For this shot i used a relativle low ISO of 125. That way i got a lot of time to shed the light on the foreground and the tree. also you can use very strong flashlights to be faster and the sky turns all black. Here i would run around with the lights and start at the tree then run the foreground and stop the exposure.
