Location
This photo was taken from the deck of my home in Kentucky. This was during the lunar eclipse January 20th 2019.Time
These photos were taken between 10:30 and 11:00 PM on January 20th 2019.Lighting
Well the lighting was supplied by the sun reflecting off the moon at different stages of the eclipse.Equipment
I used a Nikon D3200 with a 15-55 mm lens, I took several shots of the eclipsing moon at different stages. I do not remember the shutter or f stop used, or even the ISO used (but it was probably 100). The camera was placed on a tripod and I used a remote shutter release fob.Inspiration
The inspiration was that it was a lunar eclipse. I had in my mind that I wanted to show the different stages of the eclipse. I had never photographed an eclipse before, so I researched how to shoot the eclipse and applied it to these shots. I was pleased at the result. But it was freezing when I took those. I had to bring the camera in a few times because it was freezing up and so was I.Editing
I shot everything in RAW, so yes there was a little post processing. Actually, I did very little regarding lighting and contrast. I happened I took clear sharp photograph on the front end. I did use Photoshop to stage the different stages of the moon during the eclipse. In my camera bag
I usually carry only a small camera bag that will hang on my shoulder. I have one camera body (Nikon D3200) and two lenses (15-55mm) and (55-300mm). I have a polarized filter for each lens and a neutral density filter for the smaller lens. I have several macro attachment lenses for the (15-55mm) lens in case I wish to do macro photography.Feedback
When photography any night sky shots do your research and know what you wish to do ahead of time. Something like a lunar eclipse does not come around often, so have a plan and work the plan. It is a good idea to take some practice shots to insure shutter speed, ISO and f-stop or correct. Then have fun.
