This photo was taken from my trip to Scotland over the New Year break. I was on my way to Glencoe and came up over a ridge to see this wonderful sight on my left so I had to pull overTime
Even though there is still quite a bit of ice on the water this photo was actually taken at 14:00. I had arrived at around 10:30 and wasn't planning on staying so long but there were just so many photo opportunities with the perfectly still water, but it was freezing cold!Lighting
As it was mid afternoon in January the sun was quite low in the sky which gave me some wonderful soft lighting which also drew out the reflections betterEquipment
This was shot with a Canon 6D MKII and Canon 24-70mm f4 lens. I used a Vanguard tripod and Formatt Hitech Grad Filter for the skyInspiration
There were so many opportunities on this shoot but this one particular composition really caught my eye due to the foreground rocks that lead you towards the line of trees being reflected in the water and then the beautiful side lit mountain in the background to finish the shot offEditing
As I mainly take landscape photos I'm used to having to carry out quite a lot of post processing but for this image I didn't need to do a lot. Really all I have to do was adjust the contrast to bring out the beautiful colours and reflections. I also did a slight sharpenIn my camera bag
I like to have as much in my bag as possible because you never know when you will need something, so in it is my Canon 6DMKII, 3 x Canon Lenses (16-35mm wide angle, 24-70mm, my go to lens, and a 70-200mm telephoto), Formatt Hitech Firecrest Filters, cleaning cloths, remote control, spare batteries and SD cards, weatherproof covers and clothing, torches with spare batteries, hat and gloves for the cold nights and my mobile phone, plus I'll always have my tripod with meFeedback
For this image is was more about taking your time to move around and find the best composition. As it was a very clam day I knew the reflections would stay, but always use a tripod, even for what you consider to be a simple shot, that way it makes you take you time and get the shot right
