Wonderful cat portrait. It helps when you have such a handsome model :-))

Thank you. He is a very handsome cat. (He is being fostered by my daughter until he finds his fur-ever home. He is a rescue cat - had one back leg amputated less than a month before I shot this photo of him.)

Location
I shot this photo in the living room of our daughter's home.Time
I shot this photo at 1:59 PM CST ( December 25).Lighting
It was poor indoor lighting in the living room, immediately in front of the natural gas fireplace. The llight came from two incandescent lights hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen area several feet away (living room and kitchen are 'open concept'). What little outdoor light available behind the subject was mostly blocked by the Christmas tree.Equipment
I captured this photo hand-held with my Nikon D750 Camera and a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lens at 68mm. The camera was set in Aperture Priority mode f/2.8 1/60 sec ISO 4000 0.33 eV White Balance set at "Incandescent". Pattern Metering.Inspiration
I love cats. Our daughter is a cat foster. This beautiful cat "Ray" was a 'tripod' (three-legged) awaiting his fur-ever home while he healed from his recent amputation surgery that claimed his leg. He loved sitting in front of the fireplace when it was turned on. I wanted to capture his personality while practicing portrait photos with him.Editing
This photo was shot in JPEG. I used ACDSee Pro 6 to convert to black and white, to make minor adjustments to the lighting & exposure, and to do a slight crop to the photo. In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D750, D200 and D5100 cameras in my bags along with my Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II,a Tamron SP 24-70MM F/2.8 Di VC USD, a Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD Lens, Nikon f/2.8 Micro f/2.8 lens, and a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens. I also always have my Samsung S8+ SM-6955W cellular phone with me (I like to use it when I want or need a wider angle photo.)Feedback
My advice for others is to shoot as often as you can anywhere anytime. Take advantage of the lighting (or lack of) and play with your f stops, and other settings (ISO, shutter speed, and aperture). Take more than one photo... you can always delete it if it doesn't turn out. Most of all, have fun!!
