This is an old shot of my that I revisited. From what I can gather the original shot was taken back in September 2012 around 6 o'clock in the evening.Lighting
Lighting for the original shot was just daylight coming in from the window. This was softened down by the window blind. This and the fact I had the apperture set to f16 resulted in an exposure time of 30 sec.Equipment
I used my Nikon D90 in Manual mode. The lens used was my 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens. The camera was set up on a tripod. No flash (long exposure of 30sec).Inspiration
I took the original image to be used in a 'silence' themed competition. I created various versions including having a brick wall in the sound hole of the guitar and another where the strings were cut with snips. However for this version I wanted to create a moody type shot where the guitar would be in the shade with only a ray of light illuminating a band across the guitar body.Editing
Oh yes. The original image back in 2012 was processed in lightroom. This would have been to enrich the tones and contrast. On my revisit to the image I used layer masks and camera raw filter in photoshop to dodge and burn the areas and give the impression of a ray of light highlighting a band across the guitar and to highlight the label just enough to allow it to be partially read.In my camera bag
Nowadays I have a Nikon D850. I use a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2 and a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2. Another lens I keep in my bag is the Samyang 14mm f2.8 manual wide angle lens. I have a Nikon SB-910 speedlight and I also carry an ND1000 10 stop and a ND400 filter as well as a circular polarizing filter. I always have a spare battery for the camera and some eneloop AA spares for the speedlight. I use a Black Rapid strap.Feedback
Have an idea of the type of result you are trying to achieve. With this shot the actual taking of the shot was relatively easy as long as you set up the shot correctly ie angle of shot, sharpness, depth of field etc. It was the post processing that brought me the result. There are many ways of getting the result. I find with this type of shot it's best to have a bright image that you can darken to suit as opposed to having a dark image and then try to lighten areas. The information has to be in the shot so I always shoot raw to insure there is that range to work with.
