Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside near a lake. There was an over cast and the day was gloomy. It actually had just finished raining which is why there are water drops on her arms. We found a spot on a small dock above the water. I positioned myself low and angled upward on to my subject.

Time

I photographed this midday.

Lighting

This is all natural lighting. Overcast/cloudy days are my favorite days to photograph in because the lighting is easier to work with.

Equipment

I photographed this with a Canon 70D and I believe a 50mm lens

Inspiration

I wanted to photograph my subject specifically to obtain a strong contrast. My subject has very melanated skin so i requested that she wear white because I wanted to her skin to really pop. The overcast day made it really easier for me to achieve the look I was going for.

Editing

The only post processing I did was smoothing of my subjects skin and smoothing out some of the wrinkles in her shirt.

In my camera bag

My camera and a few lenses- 18-35mm, 50mm, 85mm. Currently I am using a Canon M5 mirrorless.

Feedback

I recommend playing with shooting on overcast/cloudy days!
