Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Financial District of "La Défense" near Paris. The tower formerly called "Tour EDF" is now named "Tour Légende" and is 20 years old. Its architect Ieoh Ming Peï is the father of the "Pyramide du Louvre" (1989). The "Tour Légende" is 160 meters high.

Time

It was a sunny Monday morning at 10 am, there was a lot of people (near 200.000 daily workers) who crossed this place.

Lighting

The sun was shining and unfortunately very few clouds were in the sky. I would have liked more clouds to be like a filter with the light too strong for me.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D810 with an 14-24mm f/2.8 lens, a tripod Vanguard Alta Pro 263 and NISI filters 150mm (ND1000).

Inspiration

When I took this photo, I wanted a dynamic sky with a clouds movement effect. So I would have to use a long exposure parameters and filters in order to cancel people and capture the clouds movement. I choose a shutter speed of 15 seconds with a ND1000 filter.

Editing

I love deep dark black and white and I find it's a very good post-processing for architecture building. So i'm used to process with Lightroom and Nik Collection for the dark black and white.

In my camera bag

I'm used to take my Nikon D810 with my Nikkor 14-24mm 2.8 for landscape, my nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 for portraits, my nikkor 105mm 2.8 for macro and my Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 for proxy and portraits. There are also my NISI filters S5 150mm (CPL pro + ND64 + ND1000) and my first D7000.

Feedback

For taking this photo, you must have a fine day with clouds in movement and use tripod with filters ND.
