Location
I took this photograph in the city centrum of Rotterdam on a rainy evening. What you see is city lights reflecting in a tiny puddle on the street.Time
On Friday the 7th of December 2018, after school, I wandered through the city centrum on the hunt for this kind of photos. This particular shot was taken at 18:55.Lighting
In order to cope with the dark situation, I shot this at a shutter speed of 1/60 sec. (Along with an aperture of f/1.4 and iso 1000.)Equipment
Besides the Sony A7M3 and a Sigma 50 mm, f/1.4 ART lens I used only a plastic 'bag' to keep my equipment dry.Inspiration
A few months earlier I went out at a late, rainy summer evening to the centrum of my village. I don't exactly remember what I was planning to photograph, but while taking some shots I realized that the city lights were making mesmerizing reflections on the wet street and in the puddles. (If seen from a very low point of view). This particular Friday I went ou to shoot the same kind of images, but in a big city with much more options and with better image quality.Editing
Afterwards, I uploaded the photos to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic, where I mostly did some color enhancements and a little bit of noise reduction (along with the sharpening tool).In my camera bag
My photography bag always contains the Sony A7M3 with the Sigma 50 mm f/1.4 ART mounted. I usually take the Sony 28-70 f/3.5-5.6 with me too, although I barely use it. From time to time I also take my old camera, the Sony HX-400V with me. And most of the time I also take a plastic bag with a zipper and some rubber bands with me against the rain. (Doesn't look very professional, but it works). Lately, I bought a camera strap from bravestraps.com which is now also always attached to my camera. Also, the sun canopies for the two lenses are always attached. (Mostly for the protection of the glass)Feedback
This kind of photos can be taken anywhere with (bright) lights, as long as there isn't much daylight, and ideally, your camera should be able to cope with dark lighting situations. Anyhow, a big city can give you much more variety in both compositions and city lights (and their colors). Also, it helps if you're not too scared to walk around in the rain, get looked at by people (who think: "Why would someone want to sit on the wet street in this weather?") and to get some pain in the back (from the weird positions you'll find yourself in). But well, in the end, this only makes it more of an experience.
