In the City of Chester, England... one of my favourite cities .. during the Month of December, there are shopping nights when the shops stay open and the street decorations are lit.. this lends itself well to photographyTime
Approximately 6pm.. dusk was falling and the lights were standing out well against the dark blue sky.Lighting
There were many lights sources in the streets I hand held the camera .. no added equipmentEquipment
Olympus EM1mkii micro four thirds camera with my 12-40 f2.8 lens... aperture f/2.8 ... ISO 200 ... shutter speed 1/30sec .. FL12mmInspiration
The first level shopping rows are an amazing feature and all the street lamps and decorations were lit .. I was inspired by the colour.Editing
Yes I processed the image in Photoshop.. this gives me the best chance of editing the image which needs work to bring out the contrast in the scene. Nothing special to report about the editing process.. just taking care that the lights and sky were properly exposed.. removal of any noise in Adobe Camera Raw.In my camera bag
One or two Olympus micro four thirds cameras depending on my intentions for the day.. usually a general purpose Pro lens 25mm or 12-40mm and possibly a 40-150mm f/2.8 .. I generally hand hold so don’t carry a tripod often. A lens cleaning kit ..Feedback
Just be aware that there is contrast in the image, consider capturing the file in RAW and use the histogram to ensure the lights don’t blow out.. I tend to expose to the right on the histogram to ensure low as possible noise.. be aware that the light is dark and don’t be afraid to increase your ISO if necessary to get sufficient shutter speed for your required aperture.
