I was so captivated by this moment in time that everyone around me just walked away... I sit down and just enjoyed the moment... I have only experienced that ounce here.. I could never put enough words together to explain it but, Wow..!! I knew then that the few photos I would walk away with would be amazing.... I still remember that feeling every time I see this one... I was just lucky enough to be there that moment....
I guess if a runner can get a runners high then a photographer can get a photographers high... I was stoned here...!!!

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture on The Big Island Hawaii. I was with some friends and we were taking and all of a sudden everything just seem to stop no waves or noise no nothing. I just set down and started taking pictures I was so caught up in the moment that everyone just left me there. I wish I had my tripod when this moment happened but I had to shot free handed. If I would have had my tripod it would have been much better.

Time

Obviously at sun set I have to guess around 6 until 8 in the evening.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect. I still had light above the clouds which gave this picture the great blueness that reflected in the still water. Once the sun went below the clouds the picture took an orange glow also an amazing shot.

Equipment

I have alway's used canon started out with the Rebel, then I was able to buy the 7d, then finally my favorite the 5d mark4. I took this picture with my cannon 5d. I think I used the 24-70 lens here.

Inspiration

I can only say the view it took my breath away. This has been the one place that I was over come with awe. It was magical... Sometimes you just get lucky... I was in the right place at the right time and came away with this breath taking reminder of Mother Earth and her Beauty.

Editing

With this one just a tweak on the blue and the orange, then I brought up the darks in the rocks.

In my camera bag

I use Canon, I have in my bag now the 5d, 7d, the lenses I use are the 24mm, 24-70, 16-35, 70-200, 100mm macro all L lenses. I talked to a photographer in Vegas when I was starting out and he told me to always buy the glass. He was right....

Feedback

The best advice I can give anyone wanting to take landscapes is to be patient. Keep going back to places because everyday is a new day everything changes clouds are your best friend. I have been to the big Island 4 times and it wasn't until the last trip I finally got the shot I wanted at Rainbow falls. The first time there was the wrong time of day. the second and third attempts the rain was so hard I could not even get out of the car. But the 4 time was it. I took my best picture there in January 2020. Early Mornings and late evenings are the best times for landscapes. Have fun enjoy the memories and keep shooting...
