Behind The Lens

Location

This image was actually taken at home in my living room.

Time

I never used any natural lighting, but some time in the evening.

Lighting

I positioned an LED panel in front and two dome shaped RGB lights either side of the subject and slightly ahead. Maybe around a 25 degree angle.

Equipment

I used a tripod, 24-70mm lens, a set of 3 lights (two RGB with alternate colour choices and a white LED panel light) and a miniature studio with black backdrop.

Inspiration

I love playing with artificial light, especially when I can play with the colour and using a still model, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to experiment and see what I could come up with. I tried to make it dramatic with the use of the lighting and colour choice.

Editing

I modified the colours somewhat and added a modest amount of clarity, along with fixing the overall brightness of the image.

In my camera bag

Lenses, spare batteries, tripod, lens hoods, variable filter and speedlite.

Feedback

Take your time, have fun and experiment with different uses of light to help catch the type of drama you want to put across in to the image. Don’t be afraid of artificial lighting, you don’t need expensive studio lighting to achieve anything I’ve captured in my image, even just a cheap set or two of lights can change the game for you.
