Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was in Catalina, Arizona

Time

This was a mid morning shot. The fox had started sleeping in this same spot every morning and I brought my camera in hopes of getting a shot.

Lighting

Light was good, not too bright and surroundings helped diffuse it a bit. Really lucky timing.

Equipment

Camera was a Canon Rebel XT and a 50/270 lens. No tripod I love wildlife and the

Inspiration

I love wildlife, and the opportunity to see this beautiful animal in nature and the colors and my physical proximity was just an opportunity to good to pass up. Nothing posed, just in the right spot at the right time.

Editing

Very little processing. Cropped the shop just a bit and a little highlights and that’s all.

In my camera bag

Canon camera, a couple of basic lenses, a small gorilla tripod. I operate on a pretty tight budget and basics are all I need. The rest is relying on what catches my eye and composition.

Feedback

For me, taking photos is more being aware of your surroundings and being open to opportunities. Equipment can help but doesn’t take the place of you eye, your curiosity, your composition and your opportunities. With digital equipment, take the shot. If it catches your eye take a photo. You can always delete it later if it’s not to your liking. Have fun with it. Your opportunity to freeze a moment in your life.
