Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the paint booth at a local gun store that specializes in Cerakote finishes for guns. The lighting was all fluorescent shop lighting.

Time

It was late evening in Texas in the fall.

Lighting

I wanted the image to be "Mechanical" feeling so I stuck with just the overhead shop lights with one small fluorescent light directly above and behind the model to ack as a hair light.

Equipment

The image was shot using a Canon T6 and a Canon 18mm to 55mm kit lens.

Inspiration

The owner of the gun store knew I was interested in photography so he asked me to shoot this and other images for him to use on social media.

Editing

All post processing was done in Light Room with basic color correction and slight change in color temp as well as luminance and clarity.

In my camera bag

At that time the equipment I carried in my bag was basic … the T-6, both kit lenses and an off camera flash and trigger. I still use that camera body today, but I have added the Canon 55mm f1.4 and the Canon 85mm f1.8... the 70mm to 300mm kits zoom lens says home most days now.

Feedback

Start small and reliable with your gear and build as you go. And be vigilant... the best locations are those small areas in an otherwise bland environment.
