Built in the middle of large rocks Monsanto as got a singular history, architecture and landscape. The best way to visit the top of the hill is across the castle street, where we can see many points of interest.

Location
I have taken this photo at a small village near the Portuguese border with Spain called Monsanto, considered by many people one of the most beautiful villages in the country.Time
This shot was taken near 10 AM during a hike to the castle on top of the hill. I have spend nearly 20 hours in that village and is heaven to any one that enjoys to hiking and photograph breathtaking landscapes.Lighting
In theory at that stage of the day the light wouldn't be so good as for example the golden hour, but the clouds on the sky have given the right amount of light beams and shadows on the scene giving it some drama to the photo.Equipment
To take this photo i was using my camera Canon 5D Mk III with a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens (hand held) without any filters. In my bag i had a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4l is usm lens and a tripod Manfrotto BeFree.Inspiration
Monsanto is a historic village, in any street we can find some interesting texture or architectonic details that could catch the eye. In that morning i put my self to a challenge, how describe this village in one image. The pastel tones, the richness of textures and the light beams have caught my attention, and those elements combined with the smooth "s" shape of the path pulls the eyes to the center of the composition.Editing
In this shot i have used Lightroom to add some colour vibrance, adjusted the shadows and highlights and used lens correction tool, no other editing was envolved. In my camera bag
For this day i bring only my Canon 5D MK III with an EF 24-105mm F4 and an EF 16-35mm F4 lens and a Manfrotto BeFree tripod. Normally i bring more gear such as my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary+Sigma 1.4x APO EX DG Tele Converter (Canon) and some Lee Filters.Feedback
In this trip divided for 3 days I had the opportunity to visit about 6 different regions, but it was in Monsanto that I stayed longer and the area that most marked me by the unusual landscapes, the authenticity of the region in relation to its past and how well is integrated in nature. I have plan the trip a few weeks in advance, accommodation, weather forecasts and I studied some of the best known places in the region to be more comfortable exploring the areas to visit. No doubt that googlemaps is one of my most used tools for planning my trips. The best way to capture something similar would be the planing and the constant will to challenge yourself, to try different things, practice makes the difference. Photography is the right excuse to get out of home and visit new places, and in this case Monsanto is definitively in my top 10 of places that i have visited ever.
