Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at Milarrochy Bay which is on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland.

Time

This was taken around 3.30 in the afternoon on November 2018. I had been taking shots from various locations around the loch and this was one of the last areas I visited that day.

Lighting

No flash or artificial lighting was used on this shot, just simply daylight. However it is a long exposure shot of 60 seconds with an aperture of f13 and low ISO of 64.

Equipment

Camera used was my Nikon D850 with a Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2 lens set at 24mm. The camera was on a tripod for this 60 second long exposure shot using an ND 1000 filter.

Inspiration

I was taking shots at various locations around the loch. I happened to find this location on the east side of the loch. I had no idea this location, with the tree, existed. It has no doubt been shot many times in the past but this was my first visit to the location and I felt fortunate that it was there for me to take the shot.

Editing

I do my post work in old versions of Photoshop and Lightroom. I made a few tweeks to bring out the autumn/winter colours of the distant trees and adjusted the contrast a little.

In my camera bag

Generally I have my Nikon D850. I usually have my 24-70 f2.8 Tamron G2 lens as well as the 70-200 f2.8 G2 lenses. I carry my Nikon SB-910 speedlight. I also have my Black Rapid strap, spare batteries for both the camera and the speedlight and I also have a few ND filters. Although not in the bag, I tend to have a tripod handy.

Feedback

I was fortunate to find this location. I feel that having a variety of items in the bag helps to prepare for most situations but weight can sometimes be an issue.
