30 ottobre 2016 il paese di Castelluccio è stato quasi completamente raso al suolo da un importante evento sismico: il campanile e la Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta sono andati completamente perduti[2], mentre alcune opere di notevole pregio storico-artistico custodite nella chiesa sono state messe in sicurezza prima dei crolli[3].
