Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on my last trip to the Orkney Islands, in the North of Scotland. The stage is Yesnaby Castle, a spectacular rock formation about 35 meters high separated from the cliff facing the coast.

Time

The photograph was taken at the end of the afternoon in the month of October, after several hours of strong winds and the raging sea.

Lighting

A long exposure was applied to achieve a dream scene enhanced by the colors of the sunset.

Equipment

This was shot with a Fuji XT-1 and XF10-24mm F9 at 10-second exposure (using ND filters).

Inspiration

Traveling to countries like Scotland, like other similar ones, with varying climates, incredible landscapes and atmospheres with enormous changes is the basis to awaken any source of inspiration. Being patient and waiting for the most appropriate time does the rest.

Editing

This photograph is edited with the techniques I currently use and the Luminar application. This application allows me a more strict control of shadows and lights, reflecting more accurate results with those I look for in this type of photographs giving priority to the elements that I want to highlight in the photographs.

In my camera bag

Fuji XT-3 and XT-10. For the type of photography that I do, I always use a wide angle, in this case a 10-24mm, and I complement with a telephoto lens like the 55-200, although I prefer whenever I can use fixed optics such as 12mm f2.0 or 8mm f 2.8. A good selection of ND filters and gradients is always essential in the suitcase. Since the last year I have also taken my Mavic Pro 2 drone everywhere.

Feedback

Scotland can offer you everything or nothing. Time is an important variable and you must learn to be patient and schedule your locations. If you get it, you will have great rewards with images like this.
