The ancient step wells of India were the gathering places for water and social interaction in their day. The architecture of the wells were geometrically constructed. The wells were dug deep (this one is only a mere nine floors down). Monsoon rains would fill the wells, and as the water went down during the year people would walk down the steps to get water.
