Behind The Lens

Location

I borrowed a friend's painting studio so all the equipment had to be carried to the third floor

Time

late afternoon natural light was supplemented with flash

Lighting

bowen lighting system with umbrella on the flash

Equipment

nikon d 300 kit lens bowen flash system and silver reflector

Inspiration

amazing model and a lot of space to experiment 20' ceilings portable partitions and lots of empty space for movement. For this series of images wanted the model to stretch out I had a black cloth background and by having the lighting quite stark he seems to pulling from the background

Editing

the blue was an extra punch I added in post processing . Its a detail from a painting I had been working on.The rest of the image was "punched up" in contrast and I added a layer of gold orange and used soft light in the blending mode

In my camera bag

Just switched to a Lumix gh4 with a lens adapters for Nikon and Pentax lenses so I can use old glass.... still experimenting. I'm going to see how it goes

Feedback

Preplan a number of shots with sketches or writing. The day of the shoot you have a plan but be ready to also improvise and shoot to your model's strength
