Cottonwoods are closely related to aspen, but are not usually as brilliant a yellow-gold in fall. This population seems to be an exception. Cottonwoods (Populus deltoides).
IN teh freground are cane cholla (Cylindropuntia imbricata, looking like vertical bundles of sticks) and 4-wing saltbush (Atriplex cansecens) with mint-green leaves and yellow seed-fruits.
