Behind The Lens

Location
The photo was taken on the volcano Etna in Italy.
Time
It was a cold night and the sky was clear, without any clouds. It was a perfect moment to shot a startrails photo with the volcano as subject. This photo was taken during the night of the 30th December 2013.
Lighting
I used only the light that was created by the stars because the moon didn't light up so much (it was new moon).
Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR. A remote shutter was connect to the camera. Everything was then mounted on a tripod.
Inspiration
This was for me my second attempt of trying to capture a good startrails. What inspired me to take this photo? Eh eh, of course see all the snow on on the volcano with all those stars (in winter), was not an experience of every day.
Editing
I've done many exposures. I think probably for 45 minutes. Every photo has an exposure of 30 seconds. I've merged them in Photoshop, importing every single photo on a different layer (Blending mode: Lighten).
In my camera bag
I love capturing landscapes, so actually I've got a Nikon D750, a Tamron 15-30 f/2.8, several ND Filters, and a sturdy tripod.
Feedback
Search for good places where you can find something interesting to put near your startrails. Make a good research of the moon phases and check out the full moon phase. Why? Because in that way you do not have to increase the ISO on your camera, because the moon will light up the foreground. Make several exposures of 30secs for 30 minutes, or something like that, to have good trails on the photo.
