Behind The Lens

Location

It was one of those days with a good friend. It wasn’t a planned shoot, we were just in a room with almost nothing while we played with 3D goggles. But the deeper you fall in love with photography, when you “See The Shot”, you know are part of something special!

Time

It was a horrible time of day, but spontaneous moments don’t wait. Even though it was midday, with big windows the moment was so right.

Lighting

Big windows and natural light are always amazing! We just turned slightly to get more of a contrast since I knew I was going to edit in Black and White.

Equipment

While I usually shoot with a Canon 80D, this was taken with an IPhone 6s plus because it was spur of the moment.

Inspiration

All my portrait photography is about capturing humor but the true essence of the subject. While I try to think about puns or an exaggeration of character, this prop perfectly describes the relationship I have with my friend in the picture.

Editing

Processing was very minimal. I used Google Snapseed on my phone adjusting contrast, clarity, and obviously coverted it to Black and White. Any photo with high contrast levels makes Black and White seem more timeless and moody. I want all my photography to grab people emotionally in some level.

In my camera bag

I usually shoot portraits with a Canon 80D and sigma 50-100 1.8 but the camera you can use, is the one you have. I used to be obsessed with the newest equipment instead of pushing my boundaries to become a better photographer. The later has changed my game.

Feedback

Be ready and never give up. Six years ago I remember thinking “I could never take awesome photography because I’m in a wheelchair”. Embrace your unique circumstances and capture beauty from your unique perspective. The world is waiting to be seen through your lens!
