Behind The Lens

Location

This is Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Park in beautiful British Columbia.

Time

This photo was taken in mid afternoon in September of 2018.

Lighting

The day was bright as can be seen in the photo. The sun was shining but there was some clouds so the shade came and went periodically.

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel T6i camera with a 18-135 mm lens and of course didn't need a flash. I rarely use a tripod and didn't use any this day.

Inspiration

I have seen photos of these falls and most were very good and sort of inspired me to go there for that purpose. I have since made a second trip to the falls to get a winter time shot which is not more beautiful but just as beautiful and very different with a large ice cone skirting the falls.

Editing

I use Lightroom to set the exposure and the adjust the highlights and shadows if necessary.

In my camera bag

I normally have way too much equipment in my bag. I have a Nikon D7200, a Lumix DMC FZ1000 with a 24-400 digital zoom and The Canon Rebel I used for the picture and a Tamron 150-600mm long lens, not to mention several smaller Macro lenses. That day I was on my way back from Jasper and a two day elk photography trip.

Feedback

For this place and a good photo op. all you need is a good camera and lens that zooms to about 100mm. It is a large opening so no magnification is necessary for this picture but there are other aspects of the area that one might want to zoom in on.
