Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Phoenix park Co. Dublin , Ireland. The person in the photograph is my brother. We often go to this park at different times during the year as it has abundance of potential photographically. There is a heard of deer native to the park as well as many species of flowers and trees.

Time

It was taken on an August evening in 2017.

Lighting

The lights in the tree are battery operated leds that we wrapped around the tree.

Equipment

This was shot with a nikon d7200 using a 18-55 mm with a 11 second exposure. A tripod was used to keep the camera still in the disappearing light of the evening.

Inspiration

My brother had a number of photos in his head that he wanted to take using the lights. but when i saw this one tree with the darker background of the bigger tree's i knew i had to do something with it and the lights. To me the photo illustrates my relationship with photography. i use photography as a release from everyday life. but sometimes i think we all struggle to get our heads in the game and the brightest most beautiful thing could be in front of us but we fail to see it.

Editing

I don't tend to do alot of processing in my images . it is usually a tweak here and there with the levels and curves.

In my camera bag

I have my d7200 , a 70- 200mm f4, 10 - 20 mm f5.6 and 40mm f2.8 . I find this provides cover for almost everything.

Feedback

My advice would think about your photos , push yourself outside your comfort zone every now and then . Don't just take the same thing always . get yourself a notebook and jot down ideas for photographs you want to try . then when the chance comes around take it and create something special.
