Behind The Lens

Location

In a cove on the beaches of Laguna Beach, California.

Time

Morning, about 9am.

Lighting

Natural mist light.

Equipment

I used the canon 7D with a 35mm EF lens.

Inspiration

Kate is a natural in from of the camera and with her tattoos, the stairs were a perfect setting for the photo.

Editing

Before Lightroom had any presets or editing like is used now, I went with simple edits.

In my camera bag

A 35mm and 50mm with an extra battery is all I have in my bag when I shoot portraits.

Feedback

Take advantage of the early morning or sunset hour natural light. And do not shoot midday, unless you definitely know what you’re doing. Also, Lightroom has advanced a lot over the years which will help you capture the best visuals to bring out your photos. And take more photos than you think you’ll need, it’s those unexpected ones that come out the best.
