Lovely clean shot

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this very textural photo from the back country in Mt Baker Park. There are so many different peaks to capture that you can hike further back into the hills and simply open your eyes!

Time

I love this shot because being high in the Cascade Mountains, the afternoon shadows tend to be more prominent. The sun dips quickly as do the temperatures.

Lighting

I wanted to show the level of textures: the foreground, mid range and the peaks in the background. The lighting changes between each layer of mtns. I don’t like to edit nature photos very much that takes the ‘real’ feeling of being there, away.

Equipment

I used a small tripod and just waited for the interesting shadows and shapes develop.

Inspiration

Nature in its purity gives me the inspiration I need to capture back country beauty.

Editing

I used very little post-processing because I believe that takes away its feeling. I did enhance the blue sky and gave more detail to the peaks , so you can see the depth and ground to hills and feel the mileage and back country.

In my camera bag

I always have my camera- if you can believe it the 11Pro! I can do so much with this camera. I bring a small and large tripod, a shovel, and most importantly, my open heart and mind concept to ‘see’ what others may not see.

Feedback

I would advise that when you go to the back country, be prepared for weather . All kinds of it because it can change at any given moment. And that’s what makes it so rewarding. Be patient..the clouds may move into position, the brush may move, an unexpected animal may show up. Also, take ALOT of shots because you’ll never know what you’ll actually ‘see’ when you get home.
