Behind The Lens
Location
Sprecklesville, Maui at a senior center near the beach. They have many colorful blooms and hibiscus to shot. This day a sunny bright day I was testing Macro tubes I just got for my Sony A7RII. I wanted to know what they could do or not do.Time
Mid morning with the sun usually very bright but along this hedge of hibiscus are some shaded areas but this was not one of them. The light that day, like most days during this time was bright as the sun was rising fast from the east and had to get shots in the shade quickly if I was to capture what I wanted.Lighting
It is all natural. but I was trying to capture the shadows in the angle as well.Equipment
This was taken with a Sony A 7RII, no flash, as only natural light was needed. Handheld. I just received 2 macro tubes 10 & 16mm and both were on the lens so I was practicing and seeing what these tubes could do for my shots.Inspiration
Maui in itself is an inspiration for any kind of artist and photographer. I was however drawn to the Hibiscus that barely blow in the tropical breezes and make for better close ups. I know these hibiscus are well cared for and are usually full and just beautiful, a perfect test shot I thought to myself. How close could I go? I was as I stated testing and practicing these macro tubes. I do love taking macro shots, getting different angles and bokeh when the opportunity arisesEditing
I did very little, just a slight enhancing on what is already there. The tools I have is Lightroom, Corel, Topaz plugins and Photoshop. I am finding if I am able to capture a good shot in the first place, very little post processing is needed. In my camera bag
I primarily use the Sony A 7RII with a SEL 18-200mm F 3.5-6.3 lens. I also carry a backup , the Canon Rebel 5 but rarely use it anymore. Although the Canon is not my favorite, one never knows when I will need those lenses or the camera. It is always wise to carry MORE. In my backpack extras of everything including car chargers, plenty of batteries and memory cards as I shoot in RAW & JPEG format.I carry also the tripod and monopod with me and an umbrella, flashlight, and added Macro tubes.Always learning and so my equipment grows with it. I don't forget the business cards and ipad. I try to be prepared for any shot that captures my attention at any given time.Feedback
Patience! Almost always as many photographers know, being in the right place, right time, right light and always having the camera in hand is essential. What I have learned is go outside my comfort zone and take risks, can always delete a shot but cannot recapture the moment in time. One question I do ask myself since I feel like I am still a beginners and always learning is " Is this a photo you would buy?" Mahalo for all your support in choosing my photo!
